Hooray, its that exciting time of year again! Our annual Spell Binding Scholastic Book Fair has arrived!!
Monday 12th to Friday 16th November at our School Hall. Parents’ Night on Wednesday 14th November from 7.30 to 9.00pm. Refreshments provided. Come on down the price is right!
The Fair will feature newly released books, award-winning titles, childrens classics and current bestsellers from more than 40 different publishers. We have negotiated a large selection of books for under 5.00. All books will be competitively priced in comparison to local bookshops. However, there is a huge difference
for every 1 that is spent the schools receive 60 cent of this back in commission to spend on books and other educational resources from Scholastic. With over 1400 pupils in both schools, there is always a need to replace and update these reading materials. Our Book Fair, with your support, gives us the opportunity to do this.
Breaking News! This year we will have a selection of books from a publishing company called Barrington Stoke. Their range is suitable for everyone but they specialise in printing books for reluctant readers and also produce Dyslexia Friendly titles. The company offer a wide variety suited for 8-12 year olds to teens. Photographed above are two of our School Ambassadors for Dyslexia, of RTÉ News fame, with a selection of books from Barrington Stoke available this coming week!
One of many facts that separate this publisher from others is that the content of Barrington Stoke books are appropriate to the actual age of the child but the reading age is lower. This simply means that the books are easier to read so the reader can really develop confidence and enjoy a book while still getting all the benefits of important reading and comprehension skills.
Their website has a lot of useful information and is really worth a visit. Check out the full list of their titles on their website here. All children will have the opportunity to view and purchase books during the week and parents are welcome to come and join us. Make sure and come along to our Parents’ Night on Wednesday 14th November from 7.30 to 9.00pm. Both schools would like to thank the members of our very hard working Parents’ Association who freely give of their time to this event and make it the success it is every year.
The Book Fair is a great way to bring children, teachers and families together to celebrate reading and learning. So please get involved and support your school!
Looking forward to seeing you there!
